Invitation

We greet you in the name of God who calls us to peace. Each day in this sacred place, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will hold up the people of Mexico in our prayers. Located in Central America, Mexico was the site of advanced Amerindian civilizations. The country came under Spanish rule for three centuries before achieving independence early in the 19th century. Ongoing economic and social concerns include low real wages, underemployment for a large segment of the population, inequitable income distribution, and few advancement opportunities for the largely Amerindian population in the impoverished southern states. With more than 18 million people, Greater Mexico City is one of the world's largest metropolitan areas. Tough environmental restrictions have been enacted to cope with increasingly dangerous levels of air and water pollution.

For your peace, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.

For the peace of the world, for the well-being of all peoples, and for the safety of all, let us pray to the Lord.

For our mental, spiritual, and physical well-being, let us pray to the Lord.

Scripture Reading: Numbers 6:25-26 NCV
May the Lord show you His kindness and have mercy on you. May the Lord watch over you and give you peace.

Prayer for Peace by Kelly Garrett-Heaviland, Independence, Missouri

  Our gracious Creator,

We come to pray during this Advent Season in thanksgiving and praise for all of the goodness you bring into our lives. We thank you for your plan of salvation, and the gift of your son, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

We live in your creation, but we are imperfect. Your guiding spirit urges us to grow in our skills of peacemaking and justice. We want to reflect the light and love of your Son, but this task seems so difficult to implement. Help us to discern our personal and corporate responsibilities in sparking peace and justice for your creation everyday as we live in our communities.

This day, we have concerns about our world. We groan for peace as the noise of the world is so overwhelming and all consuming. Be with us, and help us to hear your voice above the distractions.

Heavenly Parent, as we strive to be peaceful, empower our spirits to be peaceful and seek justice for each person. Assist us to see every person we meet as a whole living creature worthy of your love, peace and hope.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.
God of grace and God of glory, we come to you with praise and thanksgiving. We praise you for all your creation and majesty and wisdom. We thank you for sending the Prince of Peace to teach us of your love and caring and your concern for us.
The People Pray in Silence
We thank you, O God, for being mindful of us, for giving us choices, for challenging us to consider all our brothers and sisters in the world, and for not resting until equality is a way of life for all.
The People Pray in Silence
We pray for the people of Mexico. Be with the peacemakers as they strive to build peace in their part of the world, and bless them with hope and strength.
The People Pray in Silence
We would not forget those who are gathered here this day. Into each heart put a rainbow of remembrance as we acknowledge your goodness. May we answer your call to live fruitful lives and become peacemakers.
The People Pray in Silence
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
The People Pray in Silence
In the name of Jesus, who showed us the true meaning of peace, we pray. Amen.

Sending Forth
We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for as long as you may wish.

And now, Great God, direct us and guide us into paths of peace, for we truly desire to learn of your peace.
