Good afternoon, and welcome today to this sacred place.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Indonesia in our prayers. The
world's fourth most populous nation and the world’s largest archipelago,
Indonesia is the largest Islamic country, with some 175 million Muslims.
About 300 ethnic groups speak 365 local dialects on more than 13,660
islands. After independence from the Netherlands in 1949, the republic
confronted a high birthrate, low productivity, and illiteracy-areas in
which progress has since been made. In September 2004, 80% of Indonesian
voters turned up to vote in the country’s first direct presidential
ballot.
The 1st of December, World AIDS Day, is the day when individuals and
organizations from around the world bring attention to the global AIDS
epidemic. 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day. While we
have come a long way since 1988 in learning about this disease, there is
still much to be done.
Let us unite as one in our desires for peace. Let us pray as one as we
seek Divine blessing on our thoughts. Let us work as one in our actions
of peace and justice for our time. Come, Lord Jesus, be our guide and
guard. |

Such is the tender mercy of our God, who
from on high will bring the Rising Sun to visit us, to give light to
those who live in darkness and the shadow of death and to guide our feet
into the way of peace. |

Prayer for Peace by Carolyn McCrary,

Our Dear Heavenly Parent,
In quietness we come to pray and ask for your presence in our daily
world. We ask for peace, that we might find our way and make this a
better world. Our prayer is for love, friendship and care. Help us that
we might be able to help your children all over the world.
We give you thanks for all the blessings you have given us; a place of
worship, food, shelter, and clothing, family, friends, and loved ones.
Our Father of peace, we ask for your guidance and love to strengthen us.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
O God, Creator, Redeemer, and Friend, we thank you that
we may be together to worship and praise you for your plentiful goodness
toward us. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We are all equal before you, but sometimes act in a manner that belies
that fact. Forgive us, we humbly pray, and guide us into paths of
justice and peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the people of Indonesia, seeking to live out their faith in
daily life. May we all live our faith day by day so that peace with
justice will become a reality in our world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
O God, strengthen us with renewed vision of your Kingdom on earth as a
place of justice, unconditional love and equity for all. On this day, we
remember all who are affected by the consequences of the AIDS virus. May
they receive your love and blessing. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We raise up before you our personal cares and concerns. Hear us we ask,
and fit a blessing to our needs, we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our prayer, O God, as we offer
ourselves to be instruments of your peace. Amen |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
It is our faith that God is the creator of all people and loves each
person and each nation without qualification. May we see the face of
Jesus Christ in all of God's children. May God's grace touch each of us
with a full measure of love and may our lives and voices be a witness to
that divine Presence. |
