It is good to welcome today to
this sacred place. Thank you for joining us in prayer.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Dominica in our prayers. Located in
the Caribbean, much of Dominica is protected as national wilderness.
Dominica is poor and dependent on its economic mainstay, bananas
although governments have sought to broaden the economic base. Some
3,000 Carib Indians still living on Dominica are the only pre-Columbian
population remaining in the eastern Caribbean.
May God guide our worship as we seek the divine mind for us at this time
and for this day. |

Such is the tender mercy of our God, who
from on high will bring the Rising Sun to
visit us, to give light to those who live in darkness and the shadow of
death and to
guide our feet into the way of peace. |

Prayer for Peace by Virginia Bruch, Kansas
City, Missouri |

Our Lord of Love and Life,
We thank You for our very being, and for the influence of Your son in
our lives.
Your love and continuing tender direction give us joy and hope!
We thank you for the fellowship within the Church,
within the larger fellowship of Christians,
and within the fellowship of our denomination world-wide!
In our hurried and perplexing daily lives, sometimes Peace seems only a
dream.
Not only are the nations of the world lacking in Peace,
but within our own fellowship we lack peace.
We often lack Peace because of our differences.
But Your Love formed us...and Your Love unites us!
Help us to know how great Your Love ...
no matter the differences of our cultures
--no matter the color of our skin
--or the color of our life experiences
Your love surrounds us!
We have names for each other...names of identification or location
We call each other "fundamentalist" or "liberal."
We have barriers of place, and barriers of race, and barriers of
thought.
Our Lord, help us to know that wherever or whatever we are...
You are our Lord!
Help us to realize that it is Jesus who is our latch pin, our way,
our light
...that it is Christ who brings Peace
and it is Christ above all who unites us
Together, unite us in praise and worship, service and love!
In His Holy Name, we pray. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of all that is, all that ever was, and all that
shall come to be, we praise you. We give thanks for this time of
remembering your goodness, your loving care, the gift of your Son,
Jesus, and your plan for creation to be at peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Forgive us when we have not remembered and have been guilty of actions
and thoughts that did not promote peace. Teach us to be more like the
Prince of Peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
This day, O God, we remember the nation of Dominica and its people who
struggle daily for peace and acceptance and justice. May your peace
abide with them. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would also remember the concerns of this gathered people as we bring
before you our personal cares and hopes. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Go now in the full knowledge of the gift of the Son of God and become
the peacemakers you are called to be. |

| Sending Forth |

We conclude our service for today with ministry of
music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
May the God of grace and glory and peace guide us to new paths of peace,
for all our sakes. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. |
