We greet you in the name of the Prince of Peace, and
welcome you to this sacred place.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Cuba in our prayers. Cuba is an
island located in the Caribbean, south of Florida. In 1961 Fidel Castro
established the first communist state in the Western Hemisphere. Since
then more than a million Cubans have moved to the U.S. Cuba's centrally
planned economy initially brought dramatic gains in education, health
care, and social welfare. The economy crashed after Cuba was abandoned
by the former U.S.S.R. and Eastern European trading partners in the
early 1990s, with food and energy being tightly rationed. Investments
from Canada, Europe and Latin America are helping to improve Cuba’s
economy, and Cuba’s natural beauty brings in millions of tourists each
year who come to see the thousands of species of plants and animals that
can be found nowhere else on Earth. This year, Cuba has suffered damage
from three hurricanes to it’s shores.
As we meet together, let the God of all people guide our worship so that
we may be able to say, "Yes, Lord, it is good to meet with you.
Enlighten us and teach us, we pray." |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 161:7 |
| |
The Spirit of the One you follow is the
spirit of love and peace. That Spirit seeks to abide in the hearts of
those who would embrace its call and live its message. The path will not
always be easy, the choices will not always be clear, but the cause is
sure and the Spirit will bear witness to the truth, and those who live
the truth will know the hope and the joy of discipleship in the
community of Christ. |

Prayer for Peace by Linda Mountenay,

Creator God,
As we enter into worship today, we reflect on our inward, spiritual
journey to peace, where we are renewed and strengthened.
May this peace be of the justice that those in bondage come to know –
the justice of Jesus Christ.
May this peace be of the generous discipleship that the hungry come to
know – the charity of Jesus Christ.
May this peace be the love that the lonely come to know – the
unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
May this peace be the acceptance that the marginal come to know – the
open arms of Jesus.
May this peace be the forgiveness that the guilt-ridden come to know –
the divine grace of our creator.
And O please dear God, may this peace be the end to the hopelessness and
savage killing
of the world’s war-torn countries and may they come to know – that God
weeps for them.
Through our journey of shalom in this sacred space and through its
ministries, we will seek to embody the ways of Jesus Christ, the ways of
peace. In the Temple’s sacred space we open ourselves anew to this
life-restoring breath of the divine spirit, and we begin, again, our
outward journey to the peace that the world will come to know – the
peace of Jesus Christ. Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
We praise you, God of all nations, for your mercy is
vast, and your greatness beyond our comprehension. In peace we pray to
you, Lord God, and dare to ask your blessing for all people in their
daily life and work; for our families, friends, and neighbors, and for
those who are alone. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We especially pray for your people in Cuba this day. Be with the
peacemakers in that country that they may have strength and courage to
seek the blessings for their needs. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We remember, and ask your guidance, for all who sorrow, fear, or have
special needs. May we follow your example and minister in your stead. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess our shortcomings. Forgive us, we pray, and may we go from
here strengthened in body and mind for the task before us to be your
peacemakers in our world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We remember the concerns and needs of those gathered here. Lord, hear
our prayers, and send your Holy Spirit to be with us as we seek to know
and do your will. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our collective prayers, O God of Peace, that your peace may become
the peace of this world. Amen. |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service with ministry of music. Please
feel free to remain and pray or meditate in the quiet of this place for
as long as you may wish.
Now may the God of peace guide us into those paths of righteousness
which lead to peace. Let us go forth and be the peacemakers and
peacekeepers we are called to be. Amen. |
