Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
We greet you in the name of
Jesus who calls us to peace. Each day in this sacred place, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country..
Today we will hold up the people of Bolivia in our prayers. Located in
Central South America, Bolivia is poor, mountainous, and landlocked.
Bolivia broke away from Spanish rule in 1825. Much of its subsequent
history has consisted of a series of nearly 200 coups and counter-coups.
Comparatively democratic civilian rule was established in the 1980s, but
leaders have faced difficult problems of deep-seated poverty, social
unrest, and drug production. Current goals include attracting foreign
investment, strengthening the educational system, continuing the
privatization program, and waging an anti-corruption campaign.
As we light our candle, may its flame cause us to open our minds, and
challenge us to new avenues of peace as we worship together. |

Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in
peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. |

Prayer for Peace by Dorothy Gundling, Buckner,
Missouri |
| |
Great God, our Father, once again your children come to
you with our daily prayer for peace. We realize that you are never far
from our sides and that you love us. We are filled with love for you in
return. Because of this love, we also have a great desire to do your
will, to help to bring peace into the lives of others. We have been
taught by our elders to be instruments of your peace. We rejoice in the
knowledge that this love is everlasting and that each of us have been
given the ability to be the bearers of your love to others.
Our lives here on earth are brief if measured by the meridian of time.
For some however this life on earth is filled with deprivation. Not only
is there a lack of the essential nourishment for their bodies, but there
is the absence of the caring, loving persons who could nurture their
lives. Our greatest prayer, dear Father, is that the Holy Comforter will
fill their souls with the strength that only comes from you. May your
peace which we sense so strongly in the quiet time of prayer become a
reality in their lives.
We also pray at this time for those people who are pursuing
diplomatically those resolutions which will result in the peace which is
everlasting for the world. May your Holy Spirit bless them in their
efforts and may your watchcare be with them. And so we pray this humbly
in Jesus' name. Amen. |
