Welcome today to this sacred
place, and thank you for joining us in this time of prayer.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Uganda in our prayers. Located in
Eastern Africa, Uganda achieved independence from the United Kingdom in
1962. Before independence, Uganda was a prosperous and cohesive country.
Its great beauty led Winston Churchill to refer to it as the 'Pearl of
Africa', but by the mid-1980s Uganda lay shattered and bankrupt. But
Ugandans appear to have weathered the storm remarkably well. Kampala is
now the modern, bustling capital of a new Uganda, a country with one of
the fastest growing economies in Africa. Fertile soil keeps famine at
bay and coffee plantations flourishing, but AIDS-epidemic in some
areas-is now Uganda's greatest enemy. Uganda's population is made up of
a complex and diverse range of tribes. Each tribe has its musical
history; songs that are passed down from generation to generation.
Let us not forget the part we must play in the search for peace in our
time and for our day. We pray to you, Lord God, that you will receive
us, in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 163:2a |
| |
Jesus Christ, the embodiment of God’s
shalom, invites all people to come and receive divine peace in the midst
of the difficult questions and struggles of life. Follow Christ in the
way that leads to God’s peace and discover the blessings of all the
dimensions of salvation. |

Prayer for Peace by Miriam Mann, Council

Eternal—Ever Loving One, we acknowledge our slowness to
seek and trust your grace. You love us as we are, and have sanctified
human life through touching it with your glory. You empathize with us
each day. Lord of life, for such great mercy and patience we give you
thanks!
Let your word dwell in us richly, for we need your defense against all
darkness. Remake our hearts through faith that we may wait upon you,
listen to you, and walk in your ways to bless all people.
We are grateful for our daily bread, for your forgiveness, and your help
in testing times. Have compassion upon all those touched with sorrow,
whose spirits are troubled or cast down within them. Many people in our
world have needs that are not being met. Send your enabling spirit as we
reach out to them. Your grace is greater than the grief of life. Father,
we claim the power you offer us, in Jesus name. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
We praise you, God, for this day and its blessings, for
our family and friends who sustain us, for abilities to earn our daily
bread, and for the gift of Jesus our Christ who ever leads us toward
peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We bow before you in repentance of our sins. Help us to be ever more
aware of those things we should omit from our lives, as well as those
actions we should add to our living. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We especially ask your blessing on the nation and the people of Uganda.
Please guide and direct the leaders of this nation that they might build
their land into one of peace and justice. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We ask your blessing on the concerns and needs of all gathered here this
day. Give us guidance to make good choices for peace in our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We are aware of inequalities in our world.
Touch the lives of world leaders that they will make wise decisions to
benefit all nations—not just their own. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our
community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held
up to God for prayerful consideration. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our prayer, O Lord, and in your mercy answer us. Amen. |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service for today with ministry of
music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
Let us go forth and be the peacemakers and peacekeepers that we are
called to be. Christ, our peace, will guide you and bless you. Amen. |
