Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |

Thank you for joining us in
this time or worship, and welcome to this sacred place. Each day in this
Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in
our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we hold up the people of Rwanda in our prayers. Located in Central
Africa, this tiny, land-locked country became independent in 1962.
Ethnic and civil strife have torn at the country for decades now, with
hundreds of thousands dead on both sides of the conflict and millions
more fleeing the country. Despite substantial international assistance
and political reforms - including Rwanda's first local elections in
March 1999 and its first post-genocide presidential and legislative
elections in August and September 2003, respectively - the country
continues to struggle to boost investment and agricultural output, and
ethnic reconciliation is complicated.
May the lighted candle represent our oneness in spirit as we present
ourselves to God this day. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants
161:3a-c, 6b |
| |
Open your hearts and feel the yearnings of
your brothers and sisters who are lonely, despised, fearful, neglected,
unloved. Reach out in understanding, clasp their hands, and invite all
to share in the blessings of community created in the name of the One
who suffered on behalf of all.
Do not be fearful of one another. Respect each life journey, even in its
brokenness and uncertainty, for each person has walked alone at times.
Be ready to listen and slow to criticize, lest judgements be unrighteous
and unredemptive.
Be patient with one another, for creating sacred community is ardous and
even painful. But it is to loving community such as this that each is
called. Be courageous and visionary, believing in the power of just a
few vibrant witnesses to transform the world. Be assured that love will
overcome the voices of fear, division, and deceit.
Heed the urgent call to become a global family united in the name of the
Christ, committed in love to one another, seeking the kingdom for which
you yearn and to which you have always been summoned. That kingdom shall
be a peaceable one and it shall be known as Zion. |

Prayer for Peace by Ms. Jimmie L. Radliff,
Spring, Texas |

Our God and Lover of Peace,
As we bow before thee, we seek to learn many steps for achieving peace.
May we be good students who teach others by example instead of weapon.
We ask Thee to fill our minds with peace so that its white light will
illumine all the rainbow hues of Thy promises.
Fill our eyes with peace, to see each path that we must follow according
to Thy plan. May our faces reflect Thy love to all who walk with us.
Fill our hands with peace, for we would be instruments working for
kingdom-building enterprises.
Fill our tongues with peace, so that we may speak softly to turn away
angry rhetoric.
Fill our ears with peace, that we may echo the strains of good will to
all in the music of everyday life.
Fill our hearts with peace. May they be strengthened to bear the pain of
the world's ever-present ills, and be filled with Thy love and blessing
to be shared as healing balm for the wounded.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of All Persons, we praise you and worship you and
give thanks for our many blessings. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess our shortcomings and ask your forgiveness for those times we
have not been the persons you created us to be. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We remember the lonely, the oppressed, the victims of greed, and those
who have not. We also especially remember those who have been victims of
discrimination for whatever reason. Show us also the ways in which we
may reach out to those around us and pull them into the light of your
love. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We remember today our brothers and sisters in Rwanda. Truly this is a
place that needs the light of your love. Help them to heal the bitter
wounds that divide them and show them the ways that they may live in
peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We hold up before you the concerns of people
gathered here this day. Hear our prayer, O God, as today we offer
ourselves to be instruments of your peace in our families, our city, our
nation, and our world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
In the name of the Prince of Peace, we pray. Amen. |

We will conclude our service for today with Ministry of
