Invitation

Welcome today to this time of prayer, and we greet you in the name of Jesus  Christ. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world.  In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will lift up the people of the Solomon Islands in our prayers.  The Solomon Islands are a group of islands in the South Pacific Ocean. Dense rain forest covers much of six main islands and countless smaller ones that make up the Solomons.  The United Kingdom established a protectorate over the Solomon Islands in the 1890s.  Self-government was achieved in 1976 and independence two years later.  Ethnic violence, government malfeasance, and endemic crime have undermined stability and civil society.  In June 2003, the Prime Minister sought the assistance of Australia in reestablishing law and order.  The Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands has been very effective in restoring peace and rebuilding government institutions.

Blessed is the name of our God who is mindful of this people as we worship the Prince of Peace in faith and joy.

Scripture Reading

Psalm 37:39-40 IP

The safety of the just is from Our God, their refuge when trouble comes. Adonai helps them and rescues them—rescues them from the violent and saves them, because they take refuge in Our God.

Prayer for Peace

by William Webb, Independence, Missouri

Gracious God,

We look to you now as we give you praise and honor and glory.

We ask for your help in our quest for peace.  We are prone to self-centered satisfaction.  Help us to look beyond ourselves to find those opportunities for service that will reflect your love and bring your kingdom nearer.

Help each of us to find the path to peace.  As we walk in the path of peace, let the hope for peace burn brightly in each heart.  Help us take those steps toward peace that make your peace a reality in each one of us.

O God, we now remember those in need.  There are so many who are spiritually separated from you.  Help us find ways of filling this void so those who need you so desperately will feel your nearness and comfort.  May they also find fulfillment in the hope of peace that comes from your ways.  May they find the means and the desire to change those things in their lives that cause separation from you and from others.

There are also many in physical need.  We also remember those and present them for your blessing of healing and strength and wholeness.  May your will be done.

God of Peace, help each of us here today follow the example of your son to bring needed ministry to those in need.  Be with our families that they may learn the ways of peace and cooperation are also the ways of love.  Help each of us find the fulfillment that comes to us as we live out the ways of peace and apply the qualities of love, meekness, and purity in all that we do.

Help us be the peacemakers that bring joy and happiness to our families and our communities.  Help us share your message of love and forgiveness and peace with all the families of the world, that your will may prevail and your kingdom may come.

We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.

We thank you, God, for all the blessings of this life.  We thank you for friends, family, and those who give particular meaning to our lives. We thank you for the peace that exists in our world all about us.

The People Pray in Silence

We confess to you our failure to become what you would have us be. Help us to listen for your guidance, and remember your sacrifices for our sins.

The People Pray in Silence

We pray for the nations of the world, and in particular on this day the nation of the Solomon Islands.  May they seek and know peace.

The People Pray in Silence

We pray for the just and equitable use of the resources of your earth.  May all humanity exercise wise stewardship over everything in their care. Inspire us to simplify our lifestyles so there is enough for all.

The People Pray in Silence

We pray for all those who are oppressed by poverty, disease, exploitation, prejudice, and those who are in any other way denied their full worth as your children.

The People Pray in Silence

Let us pray now for the special concerns and needs of those gathered here this day. Help us to forgive all transgressions.

The People Pray in Silence

Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

The People Pray in Silence

In the name of Jesus our savior and redeemer we pray. Amen
