World Hunger Fund - offering freely
to a hungry world the abundance from
those who have shared so willingly.

History
The World Hunger Fund was established by World Conference resolution in 1978 (GCR
1148). It provides in part for a program to be established to "facilitate
opportunities for those interested and motivated to participate in additional
ways beyond the fasting discipline and to add these funds to the support of
ministries directed toward problems of world hunger."
In 1979 the First Presidency established the World Hunger Fund as a special
part of the Oblation Fund. Its purpose is to provide funds to alleviate
hunger, and to educate persons about hunger issues and advocate on behalf of
the hungry. A World Hunger Committee (now World
Hunger-Tangible Love Funding Team) was appointed
to review requests and make recommendations to the First Presidency.
As a church we have been collecting and distributing contributions for
world hunger since 1980. Our efforts have been blessed. Millions
of dollars have been received and distributed to benefit many worthy projects
around the world. As additional resources are gathered, the World Hunger
Committee will continue in its task of reviewing projects and funding
proposals. Our prayer is that the Spirit of Jesus Christ will continue
to inspire generous support.
Funding Strategy
The World Hunger Committee meets two times per year in Independence,
Missouri to consider requests for funding. The majority of disbursements are
made through Outreach International and World Accord, organizations with ties
to Community of Christ. Contributions are also made for emergency hunger
relief following disasters to organizations such as The International Red
Cross, Oxfam America, Mercy Corps International, and others. Direct funding to
local congregations or jurisdictions for food pantries and other
hunger-related projects are also provided.
